Peru is a fabulous country full of contrasts! From the Pacific ocean to the highlands of the Altiplano of Colca Canyon to the islands of Lake Titicaca. Peru is set to be an amazing trip.
The touring nature of the trip - train, boats and private coach journeys to see this spectacular scenery is all of a relatively easy pace.
No strenuous walking as such. Macchu Pichu has steps - but that is as rough terrain as it gets really.
This trip is classed as Medium / Easy - as we will be visiting some high altitiudes and we suggest that you consult with your doctor prior to travel / booking to ensure you are fit enough to be comfortable altitudes.
Below is a list of altitudes we will be travelling to on this tour:-
Puno - 3827m
Cusco -- 3399m
Arequipa - 2335m
Lima - sea level
Colca Canyon -4800m
Macchu Pichu - 2430m
On this tour we use the agent Condor Travel - who have been specifically chosen as they offer a "Condor Assist Card" - This card, in the even of needing a doctor whilst on tour, entitles you to two doctor visits included in the cost of the holiday.
Medications prescribed will be extra.
This is of course a huge bonus, that should you suffer from altitude sickness, we have access to medical facilities in all of the places that we visit.
Hotels/trains/ buses all keep supplies of oxygen for use in emergencies.
Thats said : most people just feel a shortness of breath / a mild headache and flatulence!
If you walk slowly and drink plenty of water and coca tea (provided everywhere) then you will probably feel very few symptoms. Most people, once they receive oxygen again, feel fine.
Abstain from alcohol at higher elevations and eat smaller portions and once you get to Cusco / Machu Pichu will literally be a walk in the park.
We do recommend you consult your doctor prior to booking / travel.
Prior to travel, we send all of our clients a 'suggested packing list' which will details what you are recommended to take on the trip.
